Basic licenses

Sailing

The internationally recognised WWS Basic Sailing Certificate serves as proof of qualification and is helpful when renting sailing boats — a basic license is mandatory at many watersport centres in Germany and abroad.

Training

The practical training gives you the skills to sail safely and return to your starting point — from beginner courses to special techniques.

The examination

Theory exam

The questionnaire covers materials studies, general legal studies, theory of sailing, safety, nature and the environment, and knots. An oral exam option is available, and the exam can be repeated.

Practical exam

Steering and sailing different courses with correct sail position; mooring and casting off; setting sail and rescue; stopping by coiling and heaving to; knots, cruising, speed control, capsizing and righting, tacking and gybing. You finish by returning to the starting point independently.

Your certificate

The WWS certificate of proficiency can be purchased at the end of the course directly from your school. On presentation of the certificate, you can additionally order the waterproof card from the WWS association in Germany — credit-card format, made for the water.
