Pass your expertise on

Become an instructor

Prerequisites

  • Over 18 for licenses B1, B2, C and E — over 16 for license A
  • Fit for watersports, with adequate experience in your discipline
  • First aid certificate
  • Safety on the water even in strong-wind conditions (4–5 Beaufort) and mastery of the test manoeuvres
  • Theory via distance-learning materials — teaching experience is not required

The fast path to your license

  1. 1

    Registration

Submit two photos, a watersport resume in table format, your basic certificate(s), first aid certificate and lifeguard certificate. You then receive the registration papers for the course.

  2. 2

    Theory by distance learning

After registration and payment you receive the distance-learning materials: a detailed instruction manual, lectures on methodology and didactics, physics of sailing, laws and meteorology, plus the full question-and-answer complex for the final theory exam. Work through them any time before the practical training.

  3. 3

    Practical course

You work as an assistant trainer under a WWS head instructor directly at a school — holding beginner, advanced, children's and group courses, teaching theory, preparing and grading exams, and using safety and rescue equipment. At least 14 days (about 70–90 practical hours), extendable by agreement.

  4. 4

    Examination

Theory: oral and written exams drawn from the distance-learning question complex, taken in parts during the practical training if needed. Practical: your teaching is evaluated across the entire training period — methodology, didactics, safety, first aid and water rescue, plus safe mastery of your sport in strong winds.

Then it's official

After passing all examinations and teaching points you immediately receive your WWS Watersport Instructor Certificate — and your career can start.

License fees

As a non-profit association we keep training costs as low as possible. With your trainer's agreement you can extend the training by one week free of charge for more practical experience. Travel, accommodation, meals and insurance are borne by the student. Experienced applicants can shorten the practical training on request.
