Lokale Tipps
St Brandon is remote; arrange all logistics with local operators in advance and bring spare equipment. Wind is reliable nearly year-round (293+ windy days), making it excellent for progression.
Einstieg & Strand
Launch from sandy beach areas in the lagoon with consistent ESE-SE winds. The flat water and shallow conditions make it ideal for beginners, but scout your launch area for coral before entering.
Lokale Regeln
Respect local fishing zones and marine conservation areas; check with local operators about restricted areas. Keep distances from local boats and inform guides of your session plans.
Was anziehen
A 2-3mm springsuit is sufficient year-round given Mauritius's warm tropical climate. Rash guards are recommended for sun protection during extended sessions.

The Experience
Launching from sand in a massive lagoon means ocean in every direction and a few islands breaking the horizon. ESE-SE trade winds show up almost daily. Flat water. Shallow. On paper it works for progression—until you factor in coral and tidal currents on a remote atoll.
This isn't a wellness retreat. You need a boat from Mauritius. You coordinate with local operators beforehand. Spare bar, spare lines, extra safety margin. If something breaks beyond a field fix, you're managing it yourself or waiting.
Wind & Conditions
293+ windy days per year. Not hyperbole. May through October is most consistent, but wind shows year-round. Trade winds run ESE-SE primarily, occasionally E or ENE. 16.4 knot average means steady riding, not big air days. Thermals kick in afternoons. Mornings lighter but rideable.
Wind won't stop you here. Reef awareness and tide cycles will.
The Water
Shallow flat lagoon—what beginners need, what intermediates use for technique work. Warm year-round. Problem: coral heads and urchins occupy the same space. Currents develop on outer edges during tide changes. Scout before rigging. Talk to local guides about coral location and seasonal shifts.
The shallow water forgiving for learning also means mistakes hurt. Coral cuts. Urchin spines spike. Not fatal, but it trashes trips and requires real care in the water.
Who It's For
Beginners comfortable with logistics and self-sufficiency. Intermediates dialing flat-water technique. Anyone trading convenience for guaranteed wind. Not a school spot with rentals. Not a resort where staff manages hazards. You manage this yourself or pay a guide.
Mauritius's main island has WiFi and backup plans. St Brandon doesn't.
What Actually Works
Wind reliability is real. Flat water is real. But respect the reef, read tidal cycles, and arrive redundant—extra bar, extra flying line, extra margin. Know how to spot coral shadows in the water. Listen to guides. Once that's dialed, you get flat water with consistent trade winds and empty lagoon. Rare enough to justify the friction.
