Lokale Tipps

Wind is most reliable from May-October; plan your visit during these months for consistent sessions. Dakhla town offers good logistical support, making this an accessible spot for intermediate riders seeking consistent conditions.

Einstieg & Strand

The beach allows decent launching with consistent northerly winds, though choppy ocean conditions demand careful entry timing. Watch for swells and use a gradual wade-out approach given the rocky bottom.

Lokale Regeln

Respect other water users and stay aware of local fishing activities common in this region. Yield to swimmers and maintain safe distances from other kiters in the crowded season.

Was anziehen

A 3/2mm wetsuit works year-round given Atlantic water temperatures; upgrade to 4/3mm in winter (Nov-Feb) months. A hood and booties are recommended for protection against cold water.

Spot-Guide

The Experience

Pointe de L'Or is exposed Atlantic coastline. Proper swell, choppy conditions, and wind that actually materializes. Beach launching requires timing—rocky bottom means careful entry around swell sets. This isn't protected water. Conditions shift hourly; read the ocean before you commit.

Wind & Conditions

293 rideable wind days per year is exceptional. May through October is prime season—six months of consistent northerlies and NNE pushing hard. Thermal afternoon gusts arrive suddenly and swing sessions either way. Mornings offer more predictability.

The Water

Atlantic swell here is choppy and powerful. Strong currents and undertow are real hazards on this exposed point. Rocky outcrops near launch require local knowledge—don't paddle into unfamiliar ground. Water temperature varies seasonally. Rescue response times are slow given the remote location.

Who It's For

Intermediate riders comfortable with current awareness and choppy faces. You need solid boat sense and the ability to handle strong push. Beginners should develop elsewhere—this spot tests skills, doesn't teach them.

Logistics

Dakhla town handles supplies, basic accommodation, and rental shops. Medical facilities exist. Infrastructure is functional, not resort-level.
