Ausstattung

  • Basic beach facilities and small lodges in Los Roques village
  • Local guides and equipment rental available through tour operators
  • Fresh seafood and supplies from nearby fishing community

Lokale Tipps

Los Roques is a national park; obtain proper permits and check local regulations before visiting. Access is primarily by boat or small aircraft, so plan transportation in advance and bring all necessary supplies.

Einstieg & Strand

The flat water sandbar provides ideal launch conditions for beginners with consistent onshore-to-sideshore winds. Protected shallow areas allow safe water entry and recovery even in lighter conditions.

Lokale Regeln

Respect local fishing activities and indigenous communities; stay clear of active nets and traditional watercraft. Keep a safe distance from other water users in the compact flat-water zone.

Was anziehen

A thin 2-3mm spring wetsuit provides adequate warmth year-round given the tropical Caribbean location. Consider UV protection and rash guards as the equatorial sun is intense.

Spot-Guide

The Setup

Los Roques National Park sits offshore. You access it by boat or small aircraft. No rolling up. Permits required, advance planning mandatory. This is the tradeoff: stupid-consistent wind (325 days/year) and beginner-appropriate water, but genuine isolation.

Wind

15.9 knots average, primarily from the east-southeast quadrant. You won't get blown offshore on light days because light days barely exist here. The consistency is the main feature—you show up and ride, don't waste time waiting.

Water

Shallow sandbars and protected areas make learning realistic. Currents and undertow exist where the sandbar drops—respect those zones. Rocks scattered along the edges require awareness. The warm water is a plus. Medical evacuation isn't.

Who Should Go

Beginners who can self-rescue and are genuinely comfortable alone on the water. "Beginner-friendly" means forgiving shallow water, not consequence-free. If something breaks badly, rescue infrastructure is hours away, not minutes.

Reality Check

Basic lodges and rental gear through local operators. Fresh seafood keeps you fed. No beach scene. You're here for wind consistency and progressive conditions, not amenities.
