Spot-Guide
The Setup
Ramp 23 puts you at the water in seconds—drive to the edge, rig, launch. No beach walk. When Atlantic conditions turn gnarly, that matters. During NE-N winds the sand holds and you get immediate depth.
Wind
275 windy days annually. That's the stat. October through May is prime, but Hatteras doesn't really have an off-season. NE-N winds align with the ramp and clean the face. SW brings chop and complexity. You'll session.
Water Reality
Shallow sandbars shift seasonally. Currents and rips are constant—check tide conditions before every session. Recreational boats and occasional fishing piers add navigation work. Hurricane season (August-October) swings fast; get off if it spikes.
Who Rides Here
Intermediate riders come for consistent wind and real water feedback. Not a freestyle spot. Not a wave spot. It builds durability and ocean reading. Beginners can use local schools. Advanced riders treat it as winter training when lighter breaks die.
The Area
Hatteras village has shops, food, and beds. Low crowd in the water. Working fishing community vibe, not resort town. Camping available for multi-day waits.
Respect the rips. Bring a strong edge.
