Gefahren

  • Choppy ocean conditions with strong currents common along Namibia's coast
  • Cold Atlantic water temperatures requiring thermal protection
  • Rocky outcrops and shallow areas typical of Guano Bay's geography
  • Variable wind patterns with sudden gusts from multiple directions

Was das für dich heißt

  • Material tragen — nicht über Steine ziehen
  • Starke Strömung — upwind zurücklaufen, nicht abtreiben lassen
  • Im Stehbereich auf Finnen und Leinen achten

Ausstattung

  • Basic accommodation in nearby coastal settlements
  • Limited food and water supplies; bring provisions from larger towns
  • Remote location with minimal rescue infrastructure

Lokale Tipps

Guano Bay is extremely remote with limited services; ensure self-sufficiency, carry repair kits, and check weather conditions before traveling. Best visited during the windiest months (June-September) for reliable conditions.

Einstieg & Strand

Launch from the beach into choppy ocean conditions; southern and southwestern winds are most consistent. Watch for rip currents and shallow rocky areas near the shore before committing to deeper water.

Lokale Regeln

This is a remote spot with minimal crowds; respect any local fishing operations and protected marine areas. Yield to other water users and be self-sufficient for safety.

Was anziehen

Wear a 4/3mm or 5/4mm wetsuit year-round due to cold Atlantic water (10-14°C). Add booties and gloves for extended sessions in this remote location.

Vorfahrt & Verhalten

Spot-Guide

The Experience

Guano Bay is unfiltered. You're launching into a rocky Atlantic coastline where conditions stay variable and the ocean doesn't accommodate mistakes. Rocky outcrops and shallow patches define entry and exit—scout before you commit.

There's no resort fantasy here. No beach bars, no other kiters, no infrastructure. Just wind and the decision you made to show up.

Wind & Conditions

282.5 windy days annually at 18.3 knots average. June–September is your window for reliable S/SSW flow and consistent swell. Outside that, expect moody conditions: sudden gusts from NW, NNW, ENE clock the wind fast and keep you reading the water constantly.

Launch during SSW phases when predictability peaks. Early mornings offer windows, but the choppy ocean state is baseline—not exception.

The Water

Atlantic cold year-round. Bring a 5/4mm thermal or don't bother. Benguela Current means water stays harsh.

Rip currents are common and don't announce themselves. Rocky shallows near shore demand precise launch angles or you'll wreck your board. Get local intel on clean entry points before you paddle out—ankle-breaker scrambles waste hours and energy.

Who It's For

Intermediate riders who are self-sufficient. You need solid fundamentals because conditions won't hold your hand, and the judgment to walk away when wind, current, and chop stack against you.

Rescue infrastructure is minimal. Bring repair kits, spare lines, a proper med kit. You're making your own risk calls.

The Scene

There isn't one. No kite schools, no rentals, no community. Nearest town is minimal supply. Solo or small group travel only.

You can kite almost year-round, but June–September is when the forecast becomes trustworthy instead of a gamble.
