Lokale Tipps

Dakhla's 293+ windy days annually make it one of Morocco's most reliable spots; visit June-October for peak thermal winds and larger visiting kite communities with organized events.

Einstieg & Strand

The flat lagoon water provides ideal launching conditions for beginners; launch from sandy areas when northeasterly winds dominate, checking tide levels as shallows can shift.

Lokale Regeln

Share the lagoon respectfully with local fishermen and other water users; follow established corridor patterns and yield to downwind riders in crowded sessions.

Was anziehen

A 3/2mm wetsuit suffices for most months; in winter (Dec-Feb) consider 4/3mm as Atlantic waters cool slightly, though Dakhla remains relatively warm year-round.

Spot-Guide

The Experience

Dakhla Lagoon is a sprawling enclosed body of water with consistent wind and glassy flat conditions. You launch from sandy flats and can string together long sessions without fighting chop or current. The tradeoff: shallow water with submerged rocks and sandbars, plus fishing nets scattered throughout. Stay in marked rider zones and respect local boat traffic.

Wind & Conditions

Average 15.8 kts masks the real pattern. Afternoons bring thermal wind that builds unpredictably—you'll launch in 10 kt conditions and face overpowered gusts within two hours. June through October the thermals run harder. Wind comes mostly north and northeast. Every month runs double-digit averages; winter isn't a drop-off, just slightly less intense.

The Water

Shallow and unforgiving. Submerged rocks and shifting sandbars mean you need local knowledge or stick to designated areas. When it gets choppy, sightlines collapse fast due to the enclosed geography. Cold water year-round; summer warmer but not tropical. A rashguard is standard kit.

Who It's For

Flat-water progression and trick riders. No waves, no current—just space to dial in your pop and lock in new moves. Proper schools and rentals exist here. June through October brings organized events and a full community. December through March: solid wind, fewer people.

The Real Talk

Wind reliability is the main draw—you will ride. The cost is shared water, fishing traffic, and terrain that punishes inattention. Tide shifts and submerged hazards are real concerns. Respect the lagoon and it works.
