Lokale Tipps

Dakhla enjoys 299+ windy days annually, making it one of the world's most consistent spots—plan extended visits to maximize sessions. Arrive during Jun-Sep or Dec-Feb for optimal conditions and plan ahead as supplies can be limited in this remote Western Saharan town.

Einstieg & Strand

The flat water lagoon offers ideal launching conditions with consistent N to NE winds and gradual beach entry. Sandy launch zones are generally obstacle-free, making this excellent for beginners building confidence.

Lokale Regeln

Respect the established kite zones separated by schools and local riders; stay clear of swimmers and other water users. Yield to experienced riders in congested areas and follow local beach rules regarding launch/landing zones.

Was anziehen

A 3/2mm wetsuit is suitable year-round; water temperatures range from 18-22°C depending on season. Consider a rash guard for sun protection in the intense African sun during summer months.

Spot-Guide

The Experience

You'll spend serious time on the water here. The lagoon is forgiving—flat, sandy bottom, gradual entry, no obstacles on launch. First session feels easy. Tenth feels the same. That's the point.

Trade winds blow year-round. Jun-Sep and Dec-Feb are marginally more organized, but you'll get wind in November. After six sessions in eight days you'll notice you're actually competent.

Wind & Conditions

N, NNE, and NE winds dominate. Afternoon wind gets lumpy. Morning sessions are better. The 15.6 kt average understates real conditions—thermal effects push you into 12-18 kt range with gusts. Bring multiple sizes; you'll live on your mid-range board.

The Water

Flat water is the draw. Tidal currents drift you constantly—you need to actively manage position. Shallow areas have scattered rocks and seagrass. Neither stops you, both demand attention.

Remoteness cuts both ways: uncrowded, but limited rescue infrastructure. Weather windows matter more than at spots with coast guard coverage.

Who It's For

Beginners and intermediates building volume and dialing technique. Experienced riders use 5-day blocks to train hard. You don't progress here; you repeat.

You need comfort with isolation. Dakhla is in Western Sahara, logistically thin. Schools and repair shops are solid, but plan ahead. Bring spares.

The Scene

Kite community is working, not festive. Schools are legit, shops are equipped, food is reasonable. The vibe is serious riders logging hours.

Optimal window: Jun-Sep or Dec-Feb. Off-season (Mar-May, Oct-Nov) still works—wind barely drops—but fewer flights and emptier school rosters.
